Linking a Journal to a Working Paper (Desktop)
What it is: A feature that connects an existing journal entry to a specific working paper tab, so the journal's amounts can be reviewed and edited directly within the working paper.
What it's for
When preparing financial statements, adjusting journal entries often need to be documented alongside the schedules or workings that support them. Linking a journal to a working paper brings the two together: you can see the journal figures in context, and any edits you make to the amounts on the working paper are reflected back in the journal automatically.
How to do it
Linking a Journal
- Open the working paper you want to link the journal to.
- Navigate to Template Tools within the working paper.
- Select Journal Link.
- A pop-up displays all journals that have been created for this client. Select the relevant journal.
- The journal is now linked to the working paper — the journal entries appear within the working paper layout.
- To adjust a journal amount, simply edit it on the working paper; the change flows back to the journal automatically.
Tip: This two-way link means you only need to update the figure in one place — the journal and working paper stay in sync.
